Who we are. Counsel Sports LLC is a New York limited liability company. Justin Aimonetti is an NFLPA Certified Contract Advisor. NFLPA certification can be verified with the NFLPA.
State athlete agent registration. Where applicable, we may register as an athlete agent in states where we recruit student-athletes. If you are a student-athlete, parent, coach, or compliance officer and want to confirm our status in a state, contact us at info@counselsports.com.
Notice to student-athletes and their families. Federal law, through the Sports Agent Responsibility and Trust Act, and the laws of many states protect student-athletes in their dealings with agents. Consistent with those laws: we may not offer or give anything of value to you, your family, or anyone connected to you before you sign a contract with us, including meals, travel, gifts, or payments; and we may not make promises we cannot keep about where you will be drafted or what you will earn. Before you sign an agency contract, it may carry a warning like the following next to your signature:
Warning to Student Athlete: If you agree orally or in writing to be represented by an agent now or in the future you may lose your eligibility to compete as a student athlete in your sport. Within 72 hours after entering into this contract or before the next athletic event in which you are eligible to participate, whichever occurs first, both you and the agent by whom you are agreeing to be represented must notify the athletic director of the educational institution at which you are enrolled, or other individual responsible for athletic programs at such educational institution, that you have entered into an agency contract.
After you sign, we may notify your athletic director within 72 hours, and we may help you send your own notice. In most states you may cancel an agency contract within 14 days of signing by giving us written notice. Cancelling may not restore eligibility you have already lost, so talk to your school’s compliance office before you sign, not after. If you are under 18, we may only communicate with you through a parent or guardian.
NFLPA regulation. Our representation of NFL players is governed by the NFLPA Regulations Governing Contract Advisors. Fees for negotiating a player contract are capped by the NFLPA at 3% of the compensation you receive. Lower caps apply to franchise, transition, and restricted free agent tenders and to certain minimum-salary contracts.
Not legal or financial advice. Justin Aimonetti is an attorney, but Counsel Sports LLC is a sports agency, not a law firm, and nothing on this site is legal advice or creates an attorney-client relationship. We are not a registered investment adviser, broker-dealer, or financial planner. Financial, tax, insurance, and investment services described on this site are provided by independent professionals we introduce you to, who are responsible for their own advice. Counsel Sports LLC does not hold, invest, or manage client funds.
